About ZapConvert
ZapConvert is a free online file converter for PDFs, Office documents, images, spreadsheets, audio and video. 38 of its 52 tools run entirely in your web browser, so the file never leaves your device. No account, no watermark.
How it works
Browser tools use open-source libraries compiled for the web (pdf-lib, PDF.js, SheetJS, Tesseract, qpdf) to convert files inside the tab, using your device’s own processor. That is why there is no upload wait, and no file size limit beyond your device’s memory.
Formats that browsers cannot handle well, such as Word to PDF or video compression, run on dedicated conversion servers using LibreOffice and FFmpeg. Files are streamed through memory, never stored, and deleted the moment the result is sent. Server tools accept files up to 100 MB.
Why it exists
Most online converters upload every file to a server you know nothing about, then cover the page in sign-up walls. ZapConvert does the opposite: keep files local wherever possible, explain plainly where they go when they cannot be, and never ask who you are.
How it is funded
- The free site shows ads, which pay for the conversion servers.
- Optional ad-free plans remove them. The Lifetime Pass also unlocks Self-Hosted Pro.
- ZapConvert can also be self-hosted on your own server with Docker, with no ads.
Who runs it
ZapConvert is built and operated by TeaGee Labs (ABN 72 539 682 904), an independent Australian software studio.
