Frequently asked questions
Using ZapConvert
Is ZapConvert free?
Yes. Every tool is free with no account and no watermark. The free site is funded by ads; an optional plan removes them.
Are my files uploaded?
Most tools never upload anything: they run inside your browser tab and the file stays on your device. 14 tools (Office to PDF, PDF to Word and Excel, audio, video and GIF) need a conversion server. Those files are sent over an encrypted connection, processed in memory, never stored and deleted as soon as the result is returned.
How do I know whether a tool uses a server?
Each tool page says so under the converter. Browser tools say the file never leaves your device; server tools say the file is processed in memory and deleted.
Is there a file size limit?
Browser tools have no fixed limit; very large files depend on your device's memory. Server tools accept files up to 100 MB each.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. ZapConvert runs in any modern browser, including Safari on iPhone and iPad and Chrome on Android, with nothing to install.
Ad-free plans
How do I remove ads?
Choose Remove Ads at the top of any page. Plans are Monthly (US$2.99), Yearly (US$19.99) or a one-off Lifetime Pass (US$29). Payment is handled by Stripe and you receive a key straight away. No account is needed.
How do I use my key in another browser?
Open Remove Ads, choose Restore key and paste your key. Monthly and Yearly plans cover one browser; the Lifetime Pass covers all your personal browsers.
I lost my key. Can I get it back?
Yes. Open Remove Ads, choose Restore key, then Lost your key? Enter the email you used at checkout and the last 4 digits of the card, and your key is restored. You can also email [email protected].
How do I cancel a subscription?
Open the Ad-Free Active menu at the top of the page and choose Manage subscription. Ads stay off until the end of the period you paid for.
Can I get a refund?
Yearly and Lifetime Pass purchases can be refunded within 7 days, once per customer, and you keep your rights under Australian Consumer Law. The Refunds page has the full policy.
Privacy and self-hosting
Why am I asked about ad cookies?
In the EEA, UK and Switzerland the law requires consent before ad networks may use cookies. If you decline, no ad scripts load and every tool works the same. You can change your choice with Ad preferences in the footer.
Does ZapConvert track me?
No. There are no analytics, tracking pixels or session recordings. Ad networks may set their own cookies, as described in the Privacy Policy.
Can I run ZapConvert on my own server?
Yes. It runs with Docker on a home server, NAS or VPS, with no ads. A Lifetime Pass key also unlocks Self-Hosted Pro, which raises the server upload limit on your instance.
